Scholar Success
Helping Daniels Scholars Succeed
From the time new Daniels Scholars are named, through graduation and beyond, the Daniels Fund seeks to provide support designed to help them achieve success in college and in life.
Before Starting College
- Orientation – Upon being named Daniels Scholars, students, together with their family members, attend local orientation sessions where they are welcomed to the scholarship program and learn about the program’s requirements and benefits.
- Scholars Heading Into the Future Together (SHIFT) – Before heading off to schools across the country, new Daniels Scholars gather together on a college campus to meet one another, share questions about college, develop support systems, and learn about the Daniels Scholarship program. During SHIFT, scholars also participate in valuable workshops that teach life skills and principles that were important to Bill Daniels, such as ethics, integrity, financial responsibility, civic engagement, and giving back.
During College
The following programs are now being implemented. Some are already available on college campuses where there are large concentrations of Daniels Scholars. Others are gradually being rolled out throughout this academic year. Our goal is to expand programs to provide a wrap-around model of support for our Daniels Scholars.
- Daniels Fund support – Every Daniels Scholar is assigned to a Daniels Fund staff member who provides encouragement and support throughout their college years.
- Campus communities – As soon as Daniels Scholars arrive on their respective campuses, they are introduced to people who are there to support them. Campus Liaisons and Peer Mentors all work to help Daniels Scholars connect with one another, access campus resources, and partake in organized activities.
- Campus Visits – During each school year, Daniels Fund staff periodically visit campuses to help Scholars stay connected to one another, as well as receive important program updates.
- Workshops and classes – Throughout their college experience, Daniels Scholars can take advantage of workshops and classes that focus on teaching life skills such as financial responsibility, time management, personal responsibility, and more.
- Scholar communities – Regardless of where a Daniels Scholar goes to school, they become part of a larger Scholar community.
