Philosophy and Mission
Bill Daniels had a passion for investing in deserving students to help them obtain a college education. He had an amazing ability for recognizing the potential in young people and often took promising students under his wing, providing mentoring and financial support for college. The Daniels Scholar Career Mentoring Program is part of the larger Daniels Fund Scholarship Program that is a continuation of Bill Daniels legacy.
Program Overview
The Daniels Scholar Career Mentoring Program is focused on creating leaders equipped to thrive within the complexities of their future profession. The objective is to merge the experiences inside and outside of the classroom in order to help students make the transition from an academic environment to the world of work. As a result, the Career Mentoring Program is intended to:
Prior to the start of each school year, Daniels Scholars receiving their fourth year of funding (generally college seniors) apply to the program and express their interest in having a mentor from a specific field or profession. Community professionals are then recruited to match the needs of the students. Scholars and mentors are grouped together by profession. Each group usually consists of two to four Daniels Scholars and one Career Mentor. Each September, the program kicks off with an orientation event. At that event, each group creates a plan and agrees to meet six times throughout the rest of the school year. The program concludes with a celebration each June honoring our mentors and our most recent class of Daniels Scholar graduates.
